Mujeres Ayudando la Raza (MAR) is a nonprofit, community-service based organization that strives to be an inclusive support group for Latinas of UC Davis. We are a group that retains students through the formation of long-lasting friendships and academic support, and we share an interest in helping our community. We uphold our values through participation in various community services, including the two annual community services known as Youth Conference and Migrant Center that we host. MAR has been active at UC Davis for 26 years and has 50 members.

Past Events

In the fall quarter of 2015, we volunteered in about two Arboretum Plant Sales, Sudwerk’s Oktobrewfest, the Sacramento Breast Cancer Walk, Montgomery Elementary School’s Dia de los Muertos, Explorit Science Center’s Spooky Science Nights, and 3R Rescue in Winters.

Plans for the Year

We have plenty of more upcoming events, including the planning of our Youth Conference and Migrant Center held in the Spring. Winter quarter, we volunteered in BloodSource’s blood drive, Woodland Tree Planting, as well as the North Bay Region Academic Decathlon. We have more community services to look forward to.

Benefits of Being Involved with MAR

As a support group, we do many activities together to promote friendships and retention, including social activities with other organizations in the Chicanx/Latinx Community. We also hold quarterly study sessions to encourage and support each other through challenging moments of academic achievement.
